Simple to Stunning: Elevate Your Space by Upgrading Your Hardware

Simple to Stunning: Elevate Your Space by Upgrading Your Hardware

I believe your home tells a story about who you are and who you aspire to be. We represent ourselves through the things we own. I don’t believe in trends. I believe in collecting things that you connect with. We should surround ourselves with things we care about, that have meaning.
— Nate Berkus, Interior Designer

In the era of social media, Pinterest, and millions of articles on home decor trends at our fingertips, there has never been more outside influence on how we style and furnish our homes. While it’s fun to get inspired by new home design trends, we firmly believe that home should be a place that authentically reflects the people who live there - their personalities, passions, experiences, and even values - and that looks different for everybody. There is nothing as timeless as a piece of decor that you feel a personal connection with.

On occasion your cabinets or drawers need a utilitarian knob or pull, but if you’re looking to take things up a level and “surround yourself with things that have meaning,” you need something with a little more WOW factor. Here are 10 examples of how striking detail and USA-made quality can take your hardware from simple to stunning and infuse a touch of luxury and personality into your home.

A Labor of Love: The Making of Our Handmade Hardware

A Labor of Love: The Making of Our Handmade Hardware

It seems like everywhere you look these days, someone is claiming a product is “artisan” or “handmade,” but for us, it’s so much more than a marketing buzzword; it’s the very fabric of our business. Behind every product we ship out is a small but mighty team of real people here in Wisconsin - hardworking artists and expert craftsmen who literally hand-sculpt the molds, pour in the molten metal, and add finishes and color by hand. Yes, we’re pouring molten metal into molds, but we’re also pouring intention and care into each piece, knowing it will grace someone’s home and bring a special touch to their everyday life.

What does this mean for you? For one, so much attention to detail it’s almost crazy (there’s a reason we say “The Beauty is in the Details”). Because every piece is made by hand, we can ensure every piece is up to the standards we’d expect for our own homes. It also means you’re supporting skilled craftspeople here in the USA who take pride in the highly specialized work they do. And because of our size, we can provide outstanding, personal customer service.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating our handmade hardware!

It’s our pride and joy to provide a practical piece of art that people can use in their homes every day! We are so grateful for your support, and we’re always here to answer any questions you might have along the way.

With gratitude,

Kathy Dustman - Owner

What Hardware Goes with White Cabinets?

What Hardware Goes with White Cabinets?

While new cabinets and kitchen designs go in and out of style, we still love the bright, fresh look of a timeless white kitchen cabinet. If you’re new to Team White Cabinets, you might be wondering what type of hardware goes with white cabinets - oil-rubbed, nickel, classic pewter, wood, a splash of color? We put together a few of our favorite hardware options for white cabinets so you can find the perfect style for your home!

White Cabinets with Antique Pewter Hardware

For a classic look that complements a variety of different styles and color palettes, you can’t go wrong with white cabinets and antique pewter hardware. It’s a great alternative if you’re looking for a step up from nickel with a bit more antique feel.

White Cabinets with Nickel Hardware

Satin nickel provides a silvery muted finish that coordinates well with stainless steel appliances. And for a bit more shine, brite nickel blends nicely with chrome fixtures. Shown here –Florid Leaves and Opulent Flower in satin nickel. Ship’s Wheel and Moroccan Jewel in brite nickel.

White Cabinets with Antique Copper Hardware

Shown here with our Florid Leaves Pulls and Bin Pulls, antique copper makes a beautiful contrast to white cabinets. Saddleworth Knob and Bin Pull brings on the glow in antique copper.

White Cabinets with 24K Gold Hardware

For a striking touch of on-trend luxury, try gold-plated hardware with white cabinets. Shown here with our Kensington, Queensway, and Chelsea knobs, pulls, and backplates.

White Cabinets with Dark Brass Hardware

For a dramatic, high-contrast look that works in both traditional style and modern kitchens, dark brass looks beautiful against a blank canvas of white cabinets. Pictured with our Chateau and Horse Chestnut knobs and pulls.

White Cabinets with Colorful Hardware

When you’re looking to add pops of color to a neutral space, hardware is a simple way to add visual personality to a functional piece. Shown here - Delaney’s Rose Knobs, Tuscan Bounty Wood Knobs, and Hand-tinted Pearly Peapod Knobs.

If you’re considering white cabinets or just looking to refresh the hardware on white cabinets, hopefully this gave you some ideas to get started! And if you’re wondering what a specific style from our line would look like against white cabinets - or any other finish - get in touch and we can help you decide!

Prairie Style Hardware Ideas

Prairie Style Hardware Ideas

Prairie style architecture, and subsequently design, started showing up in the early 1900s, led by a group of architects, including the widely recognized Frank Lloyd Wright. When most people think “prairie style,” they think of low-slung, horizontally-oriented buildings, but it’s also a style defined by its Arts & Crafts influence and emphasis on nature, craftsmanship, and strong geometric features. As a business who shares many of these design values, and a business based in Wisconsin - just a short drive from many of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most famous designs - it only felt natural to add Prairie style hardware to our line.

If you have a Prairie style home, a Prairie-inspired piece of furniture, or just want to bring some of the elegance and beauty of the style into your home, here are a few prairie style hardware ideas featuring our Prairie Tulips Knobs & Pulls:

Mix in Arts & Crafts Elements
The Arts and Crafts movement preceded the Prairie style of design, and while it doesn’t have any one defining feature, the hallmarks of the movement were simple but sophisticated design and exquisite craftsmanship. If you’re looking to mix and match a few hardware looks to complement a Prairie Style home, try adding a few Arts & Crafts style elements or other nature-inspired pieces that highlight the inspiration behind the Prairie Style movement. Be intentional about selecting decor that’s handcrafted, well-designed, and useful.

Company's Coming! Quick Tips to Make Your Guests Feel at Home

Summertime has officially arrived, and with it often comes lots of visitors and guests! Whether you’re just hosting family and longtime friends or you own a rental property that draws summer vacationers, a great way to show hospitality is to get your home ready and make them feel just as “at-home” as you do. Here are a few quick tips to make your guests feel at home this summer and beyond!

  1. Make things easy to find with the Kitchen ID Collection. Whether you have a vacation rental or just want your visitors to be able to help themselves to a cup of coffee, helping people find what they need in the kitchen is a great way to make people feel at home. These customizable Kitchen ID Pulls allow you to elegantly label what’s inside each cabinet or drawer without sacrificing the beauty of your space. Not only does it help keep things organized, but also allows guests to find and replace what they need easily.

2. Tidy up and do a deep clean. You don’t need an elaborate space to host guests - just a cozy, homey one! While it may not be too important to deep clean every time a close friend drops in, guests always appreciate a tidy, calm space. Put away any clutter, run the vacuum, wipe down sinks and showers, put fresh linens on the beds, and pop open the windows to let in some fresh air.

3. Offer a basket of the necessities. Stocking up a pretty basket with a few basic toiletries like toothpaste, new toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, face wipes, hair ties, razors, and basic first aid items is a simple gesture that can be a lifesaver for a guest! You can even save unused travel-size toiletries from hotels to offer your guests. Be sure to also stock bathrooms with extra toilet paper and plenty of towels!

4. Leave a special treat for arrival. If you’re home when your guests arrive, offer them a glass of wine, a cold drink, or a cup of tea. If they’ll be arriving when you’re gone, leave out a bottle of wine, a homemade treat, or a local specialty snack. It’s also a nice touch to ask if they have any food allergies or preferences (such as how they like their coffee) so you can stock up for their arrival. It’s an easy way to show hospitality and signal that their vacation has begun!

5. Post a sign with the Wifi password. A more practical tip: write or print a little card displaying the wifi password in case you’re not around when they try to log on, and so you’re not scrambling to read off 25 digits and letters from the router.

6. Keep a list of favorite local activities. This is especially helpful for AirBnb or VRBO hosts, but even if you’re around when your guests are, it’s always nice to have a list of your favorite restaurants and activities nearby printed in a guest room. For some reason it’s always harder to remember the best spots when it comes time to actually give suggestions, and this way you’ll always have your go-tos handy! As a bonus, you can leave local maps, guidebooks, or local magazines!

7. Remember hospitality is a mindset. Sure, all of these are nice ways to make your guests feel at home, but in the end, what your guests will always remember is how you made them feel. They are there for fun, connection, and adventure and it’s a privilege to help facilitate those amazing memories!

Southwest Style Hardware: Cavern Clay Color Spotlight

Southwest Style Hardware: Cavern Clay Color Spotlight

If you’re looking to create a modern desert aesthetic in a space, Sherwin-Williams’ 2019 Color of the Year, Cavern Clay, is a great place to start for inspiration. The warm terracotta shade is giving us major Southwest vibes, which is why we knew it would be a perfect match to incorporate into our southwest style hardware, Southwest Treasure.

Inspired by Cavern Clay, Southwest Treasure is now available in four new color ways that bring the warmth and earthiness of this shade to any room in your house. Pair them with other nature-inspired materials like leather, wood accents, unique tiling, and muted greenery to maximize the Painted Desert theme, or go in a more lodge-inspired Western design direction with darker wood accents, richly-colored oriental rugs, and stone focal points.

2019 Hardware Design Trends

2019 Hardware Design Trends

From farmhouse style to “millennial pink” to neutral and minimalist interiors, every new year brings with it a new round of interior design trends. With ever-evolving home styles, hardware can be a perfect way to refresh your space and incorporate new trends without a major renovation. Here are a few of the 2019 hardware design trends we’re loving.

Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral

Pantone calls this year’s Color of the Year “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” We’re loving the warmth and optimism this vibrant shade can bring to home interiors! Hardware is a great way to add a subtle pop of this bright shade to your home. Coral is just one of a few beautiful new custom stone choices we just added, so be sure to check out the other options now available!

Old & New Metal Finishes:

The warm brass and gold accents that rose to popularity in 2018 are still enjoying their moment, but now in more subtle ways. Instead of the all-brass-everything look, Arielle Assouline-Lichten, founder of the design firm Slash Objects in New York says she’s "seeing more brass highlights all around the home, and into the kitchen as well. The brass really helps add a level of sophistication to any space, and we are seeing it used in some really innovative ways that are chic and refined.”

In 2019, try embracing the mixed metal look and adding accents in a variety of finishes. Not into the warm tone metals? More subtle shades are also making an appearance this year. “Pewter and gunmetal is the trend we are loving. It’s not as harsh as matte black or specific as brass or gold, but it gives fixtures some texture and depth,” says Highlyann Krasnow, founder of The Design High.

Shift Toward Maximalism:

The last few years of interior design have skewed toward simple, minimalist, neutral spaces with Scandinavian influence. But many people are rediscovering the joy of a “more is more” design philosophy and filling their homes with decor that adds whimsy and individual expression to their space.

Alexis Rodgers of Home With Alexis is seeing “a shift away from the omnipresent cool gray walls and dark stained hardwood floors of the past few years towards a warmer color palette and more vibrant accent colors. The former palette will still have a place in homes of a certain style, but more and more clients are embracing the latter. People are exploring a more out-of-the-box, colorful side and want their homes to be a reflection of who they are, not a page out of a catalog.”

Try adding a pop of personality with a special piece of hardware on a console or end table or if you’re ready to go big, outfit an entire room with luxurious, detailed pieces.

Rich Jewel Tones:

Jewel tones have always added a rich accent to rooms, but according to Elle Decor, 2019 is all about offsetting the deep hues with black or white backdrops. "Right now, I am loving deep, rich jewel tones with an edge,” says Jeff Andrews of Jeff Andrews Design. “Bold indigo, hunter and emerald green, and dark teal all feel ready to have a moment outside of the kitchen. We’re layering living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms with paints, fabrics, accessories, and rugs in these colors to create drama against a backdrop of white architectural elements."

Add an element of richness to your white cabinets with jewel-tone hardware, or add a beautiful accent to a piece of black furniture.

While these 2019 hardware trends can help you incorporate this year’s interior trends into your home and freshen up a room, the best design guideline to follow is often your own taste and preferences! Trends will come and go, but in the end, your home is an expression of you and having beautiful hardware you love never goes out of style.
