It seems like everywhere you look these days, someone is claiming a product is “artisan” or “handmade,” but for us, it’s so much more than a marketing buzzword; it’s the very fabric of our business. Behind every product we ship out is a small but mighty team of real people here in Wisconsin - hardworking artists and expert craftsmen who literally hand-sculpt the molds, pour in the molten metal, and add finishes and color by hand. Yes, we’re pouring molten metal into molds, but we’re also pouring intention and care into each piece, knowing it will grace someone’s home and bring a special touch to their everyday life.

Summertime has officially arrived, and with it often comes lots of visitors and guests! Whether you’re just hosting family and longtime friends or you own a rental property that draws summer vacationers, a great way to show hospitality is to get your home ready and make them feel just as “at-home” as you do. Here are a few quick tips to make your guests feel at home this summer and beyond!

  1. Make things easy to find with the Kitchen ID Collection. Whether you have a vacation rental or just want your visitors to be able to help themselves to a cup of coffee, helping people find what they need in the kitchen is a great way to make people feel at home. 2. Tidy up and do a deep clean. You don’t need an elaborate space to host guests - just a cozy, homey one! You can even save unused travel-size toiletries from hotels to offer your guests. Be sure to also stock bathrooms with extra toilet paper and plenty of towels!

4. Leave a special treat for arrival. If you’re home when your guests arrive, offer them a glass of wine, a cold drink, or a cup of tea. If they’ll be arriving when you’re gone, leave out a bottle of wine, a homemade treat, or a local specialty snack. It’s also a nice touch to ask if they have any food allergies or preferences (such as how they like their coffee) so you can stock up for their arrival. It’s an easy way to show hospitality and signal that their vacation has begun!

5. Post a sign with the Wifi password. A more practical tip: write or print a little card displaying the wifi password in case you’re not around when they try to log on, and so you’re not scrambling to read off 25 digits and letters from the router.

6. Keep a list of favorite local activities. This is especially helpful for AirBnb or VRBO hosts, but even if you’re around when your guests are, it’s always nice to have a list of your favorite restaurants and activities nearby printed in a guest room. For some reason it’s always harder to remember the best spots when it comes time to actually give suggestions, and this way you’ll always have your go-tos handy! As a bonus, you can leave local maps, guidebooks, or local magazines!

7. Remember hospitality is a mindset. Sure, all of these are nice ways to make your guests feel at home, but in the end, what your guests will always remember is how you made them feel. They are there for fun, connection, and adventure and it’s a privilege to help facilitate those amazing memories!

2019 Hardware Design Trends

From farmhouse style to “millennial pink” to neutral and minimalist interiors, every new year brings with it a new round of interior design trends. With ever-evolving home styles, hardware can be a perfect way to refresh your space and incorporate new trends without a major renovation. Here are a few of the 2019 hardware design trends we’re loving.

Pantone Color of the Year: Living Coral

Pantone calls this year’s Color of the Year “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” We’re loving the warmth and optimism this vibrant shade can bring to home interiors! Hardware is a great way to add a subtle pop of this bright shade to your home. Old & New Metal Finishes:

The warm brass and gold accents that rose to popularity in 2018 are still enjoying their moment, but now in more subtle ways. Instead of the all-brass-everything look, Arielle Assouline-Lichten, founder of the design firm Slash Objects in New York says she’s "seeing more brass highlights all around the home, and into the kitchen as well. The brass really helps add a level of sophistication to any space, and we are seeing it used in some really innovative ways that are chic and refined.”

In 2019, try embracing the mixed metal look and adding accents in a variety of finishes. Not into the warm tone metals? More subtle shades are also making an appearance this year. “Pewter and gunmetal is the trend we are loving. It’s not as harsh as matte black or specific as brass or gold, but it gives fixtures some texture and depth,” says Highlyann Krasnow, founder of The Design High.

Shift Toward Maximalism:

The last few years of interior design have skewed toward simple, minimalist, neutral spaces with Scandinavian influence. But many people are rediscovering the joy of a “more is more” design philosophy and filling their homes with decor that adds whimsy and individual expression to their space.

Alexis Rodgers of Home With Alexis is seeing “a shift away from the omnipresent cool gray walls and dark stained hardwood floors of the past few years towards a warmer color palette and more vibrant accent colors. The former palette will still have a place in homes of a certain style, but more and more clients are embracing the latter. People are exploring a more out-of-the-box, colorful side and want their homes to be a reflection of who they are, not a page out of a catalog.”

Try adding a pop of personality with a special piece of hardware on a console or end table or if you’re ready to go big, outfit an entire room with luxurious, detailed pieces.

Rich Jewel Tones:

Jewel tones have always added a rich accent to rooms, but according to Elle Decor, 2019 is all about offsetting the deep hues with black or white backdrops. "Right now, I am loving deep, rich jewel tones with an edge,” says Jeff Andrews of Jeff Andrews Design. “Bold indigo, hunter and emerald green, and dark teal all feel ready to have a moment outside of the kitchen. We’re layering living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms with paints, fabrics, accessories, and rugs in these colors to create drama against a backdrop of white architectural elements."
